Alaskan Survival Gear – Born from a Call

The idea to launch Alaskan Survival Gear LLC happened on an emergency call in the Alaskan bush. A frantic fishing guide was struggling to load an unconscious man onto the shore. The patient suffered from a serious TBI and had been in the icy rapid waters of the Naknek River for nearly 10 minutes. Unable to pull the man into the boat, the guide drug him to shore with one hand while steering the boat with the other. An EMT beat the ambulance there via POV however he had no supplies, no kit, nothing but his training and a frantic few people looking to him for help. The patient survived after quick thinking by the EMT and one heck of an ambulance driver. Driving an ambulance at high speeds on rough, gravel roads through the Alaskan bush is an incredible skill in itself. Ultimately the patient survived and was medivaced to the ICU in Anchorage. The lack of gear prior to the ambulance arrival drove that EMT to create Alaskan Survival Gear. The mission is clear. Every professional guide, every volunteer/EMT/Medic/LE, every hunter, every fisherman, every person who chooses to venture in the wilderness should have quality, life-saving essentials on them and they should know how to use them. That is our mission.
